Pattern Giveaway!

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments on my last two posts!!

In celebration of winning my very first blog giveaway and to revel in the fact that spring is ALMOST here, I am doing my very first pattern giveaway!!!

I'm giving away two patterns to two different people.  Both of the patterns are complete and in good vintage condition.

The first pattern is Style #2198 in a bust 34.

Misses' housecoat in two lengths:  The housecoat has front button closing, collar, pockets concealed in side front seams and long set-in sleeves.  View A & B have "stand-up" collar.  View A has embroidered braid trim.  View C & D have Peter-Pan collar.  View A & C are ankle length.  View B & D are regular-length.

The short version would make a lovely spring housecoat (or lightweight coat for that matter!)  And then you can save the pattern and make the longer version for the fall/winter.

The 2nd pattern is Butterick #4997 from 1968 in bust 38:

Misses' one-piece dress:  Full A-line skirt attached to semi-fitted bodice above waistline.  Button and tab trim.  Short sleeves or sleeveless.  Purchased scarf.

So, how do you enter?  Simple--just write a comment on this post and tell me which pattern you want and what fabric you would make it with.  You can enter for both patterns BUT will need to leave two separate comments (one for each).

I will choose two winners randomly on Sunday the 21st of March--the first day of spring!

Oh, and if you win, you agree to sew the pattern within 1 year (by next spring 2011) and give me a link to your blog post to share your lovely garment (or if you don't have a blog to send me a photo)!

Also leave a comment if you have already made up one of these patterns in the past!

YAY!  Can't wait to see these two beautiful patterns made into lovely spring garments!

  1. Ooooh, I really like the second pattern! I'm picturing it in a red polyester... although I've never sewn with polyester, and I doubt I actually would want a polyester dress! But that's the first fabric that came to mind!
Thanks for the giveaway! I like the "you must actually sew this and send my photos" condition to winning! Good idea!

  2. I like the second pattern too. I have restrictions with the clothes that I wear. But that doesn't mean I don't want to be stylish. So I make all my own clothes, and that way I can control everything. The second pattern woould be perfect for work in the summer, though I plan to make the skirt longer....

  3. Definitely the second pattern. It would be perfect in a blue "vichy" fabric. Would be great for one long hot summer ...

  4. OMG! I love them both! I would definately make the short version of the first. I have an adorable royal blue fabric with white polka dots that if used with some interfacing another layer of the same fabric in orange would make an adorable lightweight coat for a cooler spring Gator Game!! AHH I am in love with both!

  5. For the Second pattern, I have an absolutely fabulous bright resort type fabric that reminds me of a floral Lilly dress. This would make a wonderful dress for it!! Check out the fabric below, I cannot find it on the joanns website!

  6. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. I'm more the size of the second pattern, so I'll hope for it. I would make it up in a cotton pique - I've got a nice fuchsia piece that would work perfectly.

  7. What a fun way to ring in spring! I'd love a chance at the 2nd one since finding vintage patterns in the right size for bustier gals like me so so hard. Happy spring!

  8. I would love a chance to sew up the Style pattern! I once had a long, quilted robe that was very similar and was so cozy! If I had the pattern, I would first make a quilted cotton robe. Next, a long velour one - with a pretty decorative braid on that stand-up collar. Then, I would use the same pattern to make a velvet evening coat, with beading at the neck and on the sleeves. Now that I think of it, I might want to try making up the shorter version in cotton damask.

  9. Well!!!! I love the first pattern because it reminds me of a housecoat that I saw January Jones wear on Mad Men. The fabric it was made in quilted gold jaquard. Yikes! But I would love to a clean crisp white quilted fabric.

  10. And I adore the second pattern! It would be a fantastic summer dress! I'm not sure about the fabric, but I'm thinking about color blocking with orange and white. Love the idea of view A as white with the accent tabs and the sleeves orange. That strikes me as a fabu mod combination. Wear them with little black ballerina flats. Eeek!
