New Changes to the Blog

I am so excited! I've spent some time making a bunch of changes to my blog!

First off, you may notice that I now have a left sidebar with a photo linking you to all of my sewing projects by decade.  I am so delighted about this.  I hemmed and hawed about adding tabs at the top and found it really frustrating.  I think this is much, much better!

Along the left side bar you'll find my projects by decade but also the challenges I am participating in and the other blogs I contribute to!  I still want to add BurdaStyle and Pattern Review (maybe after I have contributed more to them...lol)

On the right side bar, I've added the option to follow the blog via email, changed the 'about me' text, and added blog categories.

I've also changed the size of the font (am I the only one that likes a larger font to read on screen?) and the style of font for the headers.

Lastly, I've added a bit at the bottom so that you can link and share posts.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the changes.  It took a lot of time but is well worth it as I can now finally find things on my own blog! lol.

How do the changes look from your end?  Anything else you would change?

  3. It looks really nice. However, one teeny criticism - if I try to read it on my 10.1" netbook I now have to scroll to the right to get the main text all on my screen. It's not going to bother me much because I already "know" you, but if I came across this as a new, to me, blog I might not bother subscribing - I've definitely skipped blogs before where this has happened. I know it's only a minor thing, but when you get used to click, read, click, read, click, read, it's mildly irritating to suddenly have to click, scroll right a bit, read. You did ask.

  4. I like it, too! I'm having the same issue as the commenter above me, though; the content extends beyond the width of my computer screen. I'm sure it's an easy fix of adjusting the margins, or decreasing the size of the font in the right side bar only.

  5. Debi, i love your chanfes, especially the left side bar - it is quite an accomplishment, so you just right to show it!!! Can i ask you, how you get those pretty rounded corners on your images? I dig rounded corners but could not find a way how to automate it in blogger!

  6. I agree with the others - I *love* it but I have to scroll a bit to the right to see the right side of your page. If you could make things a little more trim that would be great.

  7. Looks great! I like larger text, I tend to lean back and put my feet up on the desk, so I'm not very close to the screen.

  8. Looks good to me, larger text is great for me as my home computer sits far back on my desk but will people using a mobile device or iPad love it as much? I love the layout too, I'm not smart enough to change mine from a standard format so consequently it looks a bit dull in comparison, well done:-)

  9. I think it's a great improvement Debi, I also fiddled about with the look of my blog for the New Year - it makes such a difference! I particularly like the links to finished projects, organised by decade - now that's a really good idea! x

  13. Love the new look and the left hand column is a fantastic addition! As others have said, the divvying up of your projects into decades is brilliant. I would also agree with fitting the screen widthways so that there is no need to scroll across... Otherwise, beautiful and a job well done!

  16. It looks awesome! I have a very widescreen computer, so no issues for me like the other readers. I especially like the buttons on the left :)

  17. I don't comment very often on your blog, though I've been reading for a while, but I wanted to say that the layout looks lovely! I usually read your blog through Google Reader, to be honest, but it's nice to be able to come here to find your completed projects by decade (and the buttons for that are pretty, too!). Maybe if you made the images in the left column smaller that would solve the problems some are having with scrolling across?
