I'm Sew Grateful for...

I'm going to indulge in a little contemplation today as it's the beginning of the Sew Grateful Week--February 2012 edition!  I always enjoy the opportunity to take a bit wider perspective on my hobby and all the amazing people I have met through it.  There's an exciting week in store and it's great to see how many people are participating!

Here's what I'm planning for the week:

  • Tuesday: A round-up of Sew Grateful Week giveaways
  • Wednesday: A round-up of tutorials and patterns
  • Thursday: A round-up of reflection posts
  • Friday: Part 1 round-up of project posts
  • Saturday: Part 2 round-up of project posts
  • Sunday: Wrap-up for the Sew Grateful Week
More specifics on how to participate can be found here....

Here's some things I am particularly grateful for at this moment:

My Sweetiepie

Many of you know David and how supportive he is of my hobby but I should also point out how much time he spends supporting me through taking photographs, helping me figure out bloggy things (like buttons and graphics), helping me plan outfits and marking the hem on everything I sew!  Now if you can imagine doing all of that during last year's Sew Weekly schedule--you can see why David should achieve sewing sainthood.  He's a trooper and so supportive and lovely--THANK YOU, Sweetie!

Thoughtfulness of Others
The past several months I have really been struck with the tremendous thoughtfulness in our sewing community.  The supportive comments, the lovely check-in emails--and even some surprises in the post!  I feel tremendously blessed to be part of such a supportive community.  It's so wonderful to have friends that get what inspires you, what you love doing and help support you along the way to achieving your goals.  Thank you all so much!

An example of the thoughtfulness of others--I got this bag in the post this last week as a birthday present from the lovely Dibs from Dibs and Machine!  I just LOVE it! Thank you, dear!

Sewing Humour

Another thing I love about sewing and sharing with all of you?  It's so FUN!  I had such a blast at the Crafters' Ceilidh meet-up--there was loads of laughter and sewing humour.  I also love reading people's blog posts--they almost always make me smile!

What about you? What makes you Sew Grateful?

  1. I really and truly am very grateful for all the support I get from the sewing commuting, on and offline. I had a hard time settling into my expat life, away from friends and family. The sewing community has reached out and made me feel very welcomed. Makes me all fuzzy all over :)

  2. Aw, great post! I'm sew grateful for my better half too! Now he's even taking on the Sew Weekly challenges with me from behind the lens (so, I'm sure he can relate to David!). You're right, the online sewing community is great! I live in an unfamiliar area, with no focus on apparel sewing but, everyone online is just so helpful and welcoming!

  3. Awe. It's so wonderful to recognize David for his support and contribution to your craft. I don't think the partners of most crafty ladies knew what they were signing up for when they go involved with us!

  4. What a lovely post. I am Sew Grateful for the genuine real-life friends I've made through sewing and blogging and for the emotional and practical support from readers of my own blog. I LOVE that bag! How did Dibs get that done?

    1. Karen I used freezer paper to create the stencil and then painted it on the bag using fabric paint.

I know its gushy but I am so grateful to the sewing community - I want to echo exactly what Ginger wrote above as it totally sums up my own thoughts on our sewing community. xx

  9. I am sew grateful for all my on line connections which I now call friends especially you Debi. Here in my small town in Alaska people are not the least interested in vintage anything especially fashion or sewing so I am rather alone in all of this in my town and without my friends who blog I would be totally lost. I'm grateful for them always coming by and visiting and making comments and I love to see they are carrying on the beautiful vintage clothing. This year I plan to try and interest some young women in sewing vintage, teaching them in my new craft room. Nan

  10. Good on you Debi. I am sew gratedul for MY David too, MrC, who is also a great support to me in everything I do. And my current top post on my blog is a sew grateful reflection post. I was going to do a tutorial but I am sick as a parrot so I might just have to do a giveaway instead :)

  11. Debi, I'm with you all the way - if I was to restrict myself to sewing related gratitude my top scorer every time would be the warmth, inspiration & interest of the online sewing/knitting community. And I am also grateful for the support/ capitulation (!) of family !

(Thank you for the photo mention!)

  12. I'm Sew Grateful to know you and get inspiration from everyone's blogs and projects! I can't get enough of it. I just finished a project that I'm very proud of and hope to share soon on my blog, but if not for all other bloggers, I wouldn't have been so gung-ho to make it!

  14. Like a lot of others, I'm sew grateful to all the people I've connected with thru sewing - in person and in the blogosphere. Also, to my Phineas who takes photos, pins hems and occasionally reminds me to come up for air when I've been sewing for hours.

  15. Hi Debi! This is really a great idea! I sewed some dolls to send off to Operation Comfort Doll. I mentioned your blog, I don't get alot of traffic, but I really wanted to honor your Sew Grateful in a way to really give back to those who have a less than ideal situation. Thanks for this!!!
