Simplicity 1722: Ruffled goodness

YAY! I am super excited to have finished Simplicity 1722, the ruffled blouse pattern from 1944:

I'm wearing the blouse with my 1941 trousers and my hot pink Ness shoes.

I ended up going with the hot pink buttons (Thanks Sarah!)

Overall, it was pretty easy to put together (but time consuming!).  The ruffle was super easy and hemmed it by hand.  The only alteration I made to the pattern was to take in the shoulders a bit.  Now all I need are some shoulder pads to really complete the look!

The only thing I was worried about was the topstitching and the buttons.  Though my buttonholer did give me some problems, I think it looks pretty good!

And of course, it goes perfectly with my new snood!!!  Though I took the bow off the snood today because I thought it might be too much--even for me! (hehehe)

I really like it!  I'll have to try out the other blouse options on the pattern as well! What do you think?

  1. It looks so nice! Again, well done. And I've always liked snoods--you're perfect for wearing one. (My frizzy curls stick out all the little holes and look utterly ridiculous.)

  8. Why go through a choosing process - make them all!! And yes, a pair of shoulder pads would look really good - and would balance out that very luxurious ruffle.

  10. The blouse looks great! Shoulder pads (relatively modest in size) will make it look even better, though it looks fine as is. Love the button choice.

  19. That is one jazzy number. Your amount of sewing is beginning to exceed mine (although it surpassed me in "periodness" ages ago)! And really, it isn't fair you get to go live in the European countryside whilst I wither away in New England.
I did figure out though, it would cost me and my boy just under $2000 for flight/hotel to Dublin in November. Too bad I'll be busy working!

  20. I love the hot pink buttons! I am so happy that there is another who seems to like hot pink as much as I do!

A good blouse pattern is like gold, I agree with the other commenters and think just making them all is the way to go

  24. I love this blouse! Such a great job. I love the color contrast with the buttons and the landscape is beautiful. I wanted to study abroad in Scotland for years and would if I had the means to do it. I'm slowly building up my collection of 1940 a etsy find at a time. :D

  27. Debi,
You look fabulous! Every time I visit your blog and see your latest creation, I tell myself "Susan, you need to dig your sewing machine out of the closet and learn to sew again." But I continue to live vicariously through you...
