I'm quite happy with how it came out!
This was my first time doing a pleat in the back and I really love the feature! I can't wait to make the jacket for this pattern. Here's the pattern cover again so you can see what the jacket looks like:
You may remember I posted the inspiration picture for this outfit of my mom in her pink suit in 1964 with her matching hat, bag and shoes:
Well, I did find a lovely black hat to wear with the dress:
I love it! I'm really glad I stuck with this fabric as it is so soft and comfortable to wear! With the jacket I think this will be a staple outfit.
What about you? Have you ever made a wiggle dress? What about a 50's/60's Jackie-O type suit?

ReplyDeleteI have made Butterick 5032 which I really love, those 50s/60s styles are very figure flattering!
I really like this one. It was a challenge but I love that you both took advice from one of your fellow sewing bloggers and that you learned some new techniques. The dress looks great on you (preeow!) and I can't wait to see the jacket. You just keep getting better and better - I'm so proud of you!

ReplyDeleteI really love this. Funny thing is I totally have this fabric in the bottom of the stash somewhere ready for winter sewing. I think I may have to go for a wiggle dress too! It looks great.

ReplyDeleteI made and wore a number of dresses in the 1950s and 1960s, some by patterns very similar to the pattern you show. None of them were anything like as tight as yours.

ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely and your hair looks really pretty like that too. The colour of the fabric is one I would never have thought to use but it looks amazing sewn up. I have sewn a couple of wiggle dresses but I tend to go for fuller skirts because there is so much less fitting involved.

ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Debi!! I have a loose weave tweed style fabric that I plan to use to make a shift dress..fully lined of course. Hopefully, I can get it done for Me Made June. I am so looking forward to that challenge!!
