My 'Going Green' Trousers

Happy second day of Autumn!!! (or Spring for those on the other side of the equator!!) I seriously cannot believe how quickly time has flown by!  I really love Autumn--especially September and October. It always feels like everything is kicking into gear.  One of my staple items for the cooler Autumn months are trousers.  Inspired by Karen I decided I need to make a second pair of trousers from my Tried-n-True (TNT) pattern, Simplicity 3688 (a reproduction pattern for 1941 trousers, blouse and skirt suit).

You can see my first pair of trousers here and the blouse from this pattern here...

I am wearing my new trousers with my very first me-made garment--a blouse made from a 1943 pattern.

These trousers will fit perfectly in my 'pink meadow' colour palette!  The trousers were easy to put together.  The high waisted design goes perfectly with 40's styled blouses (those really short ones with pleats on the bottom).  I really enjoy this pattern and I hope to make many more this Autumn/Winter.

I am also super excited to have used Gertie's method (from her bombshell dress online class) for putting in a lapped zipper. I really like it and it's great to be able to watch the video at any time (don't know why but I always forget how to do it!)

I'm super happy with these trousers and I hope to get lots of wear out of them this Autumn.  It's a pretty lightweight fabric so I'll probably have to wear tights or thermals under them--but then I think they'll work lovely for spring as well.

What do you think?  Do you have any TNT pattterns that you hope to make up this season?

  1. they look lovely, you should try to get some pettipants for under them, they make wide leg trousers hang really well

  2. Oh, Sweetipie, they look great!

Well done - so glad you've learned how to do a new technique (lapped zipper) and that you've made another pair of these trousers - they look great on you!
    Nice photos as well!

  3. Ooh I love them! Great color, too. I think that'll work for all seasons!

I just cut out my very first trousers the other day, eep! From the Wearing History 30s pattern. Haven't had any sewing time yet though and admit I'm still a little nervous. :) I definitely should get my hands on a copy of that pattern since it's made it into your "tried and true" category. I don't think I have any patterns like that quite yet, I need to do more sewing...!

  6. what a lovely combination and the green is gorgeous! that simplicity pattern is my go-to for trousers, too. i've made a pair in red and another in black, both cotton drill. i think a pair in corduroy would be perfect for the cold weather, but i always end up with fluff everywhere when i use it!

  7. These are so nice and so period style. I agree with the petti-pant bloomers. They extend the cool weather life of lighter weight fabric.

  13. Since I have been sewing up a storm this year I have not made a single pair of trousers. One thing bothers me about this 40's look it's so baggy it makes me look huge and I'm not. I go for slim fitting pants that hug my body more. It's funny because the 40's clothing is body hugging but the pants are baggy. I in fact have pair of black ones that fit me just like this but I won't wear them anymore.

  19. Oh wow, these are fab! They are so flattering and the zip on the side makes such a difference with trousers. I might be tempted to last to make myself some trousers (seeing as I can never find them to fit properly!)

  27. Lovely trousers! I always forget that I have that pattern and will have to make a pair (or two) myself for the fall/winter.

  28. Oooh! I just love that you made these up in green fabric! I've been coveting either a green skirt or slacks this season... you've inspired me. The fit is fantastic--I bet you'll be getting a ton of wear out of these, Debi!

Funny you should ask whether I'm going to be working with a TNT pattern this season--'cause right now I'm whipping up the Wearing History Smooth Sailing trousers again! ;) hehe. I have a couple others on the list for later down the road too... can't beat patterns that I know work! ;)
