The world's most popular male sewing blogger suggested that I host a giveaway given all the recent excitement here at My Happy Sewing Place. What a perfect suggestion as it's been way too long since I've hosted a proper vintage pattern giveaway. This is a special 'Sewing through the Decades' giveaway as I'm giving away a vintage pattern from each decade from the 30s through the 70s.
Here are the patterns...
From 1939, this McCall (Number 3260) jacket pattern:
It's a size 16 which translates into a B34, W28. You may recall that I recently sewed up this jacket for my Marlene inspired suit:
All I can say is that this jacket pattern is pretty much perfect. It's well drafted and has several collar options and really cute crescent patch pockets.
For the 40s pattern I am offering up this adorable 1941 summer shorts, blouse and jumper pattern from my favourite pattern company, McCall's:
Here's what the line drawings look like:
It's a size 14 which translates to a B32, W27 and H35 and is perfect for summertime fun.
Now onto the 50s and a full-skirted dress, McCall's 3004 from 1954:
Love the gentle pleating, the peter pan collar, the cute sleeves and of course, the full 50s skirt! It's in a size 16 which translates to a B34, W28 and H37.
Now for a turn to the stylin' 60s with this Maudella 3-piece suit pattern:
Maudella 5094 features a fabulous three-quarters sleeve jacket with the 60s style collar, a cute blouse with neat waist detailing and the classic pencil skirt. It's a B40, W33 and H43 size.
Last up, from the 70s is another groovy Maudella pattern for a classic A-line skirt dress:
You know what else is great about the 70s? Multi-size patterns! This one comes in sizes corresponding to B40 to B46 sizes. The shape of the dress reminds me a lot of the dress I made from the Burdastyle book:
How to Enter the Giveaway
To enter the giveaway you simply have to be a follower of my blog and leave a comment below telling me:
1) which pattern you want--you can say 'any of them' or list a specific pattern, and
2) since this giveaway was inspired by Peter's post over at Male Pattern Boldness....hop on over to his blog and tell me which of his posts goes down as your all time favourite!
If you want another entry, just like my Facebook page (the link is in my right sidebar). Be sure to leave another comment to let me know you've done this or that you already follow me on Facebook.
This giveaway is open to readers everywhere! Just leave your comment before midnight on Saturday the 21st of July for a chance to win the pattern of your choice. I'll post the winners list shortly thereafter.
Yay! Happy vintage sewing!
I swoon a little every time I see that suit of yours! I hope I can accomplish some sewing of that level someday. I really love the 60's suit but don't yet have the skills to grade it down the 7 inches I would need. So could you enter me for the 50's dress, McCall's 3004?
ReplyDeleteAll of these are too big for me and I'm not an advanced sewer to draft the pattern large enough to fit me. :-(
ReplyDeleteI would be glad with any of them darling..
ReplyDeleteI would love to win any of these patterns. My fave is probably McCall's 3004. Lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI like you on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great looking patterns. I like the patterns from the 40s and 60s the best. And Peter's posts? I like his Cathy Lane posts the best.
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with the 1930s jacket pattern and the blouse from the 1940s playsuit pattern. And my favorite post on Male Pattern Boldness -- I love that he made pants -- from toile!
ReplyDeleteAnd I liked your page on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteOooh I love the 30s and 40s patterns :-) of course! Haha ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy fave post on Male Pattern Boldness was the one about the patterns that never die - those ugly ones that keep showing up everywhere. That's what I love about his blog, his quirky analysis of pattern history (amongst everything else) :)
And I've liked your page on fb for a while now :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a giveaway! I'd love the 40s or 50s pattern. Super cute and they are not much off from my size! And as for Male Pattern Boldness, he's a man who sews (quite well I should add). What's not to like?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea he had :) And I love your decades! Personally I love the 30s, 40s or 50s pattern.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the MPB blog... I love 'his how to' posts. One I recently enjoyed was his take on waistbands and the hook and eye closure.
(by the way I follow on Google reader ;))
I already follow you on FB :)
ReplyDeleteOh thanks for the give-away, I do like that 1940s blouse with the darts on the sleeves! It would be hard to pick one favourite Male Pattern Boldness blog entry, but I have to say his dogs on the indoor treadmill is my favourite picture. I do like following along while he found and refinished that sewing table. I'm blow away with the treasures that he finds that others have thrown away.
ReplyDeletethat 40s pattern is awesome! the 50s pattern is a close second though...
ReplyDeletei haven't read peter's blog before, but i'll check it out now.
I love the 50's pattern. It is just me through and through! Plus it has the added bonus of a button through top, making it a shirt waister! Double happiness. It's so difficult choosing a post from Peter's blog, I just love reading his posts and having a laugh!
ReplyDeleteOh and I follow you on Facebook already
Eeeeeee that shirtwaist is extremely cute, but being realistic style and size wise I'd love either of the Maudellla patterns. The 3-piece suit is very chic. My favourite post of Peter's are always the yea or nay ones. Thought provoking and entertaining! Love your blog x Katherine
ReplyDeleteOoh, I thinnk it's got ot be the 19302 or the 1960s patterns for me! I've been in love with that jacket ever since you made it...
ReplyDeleteAs for Monsieur Lappin, anything featuring his cousin is always fabulous and glamourous, but some of my favourite posts have been as part of his sew alongs - he is very good at explaining things clearly.
Debi, that gorgeous little forties number, McCall's 4113 is just super - so stylish and practical too! Think of all the great combinations. I love reading Peter's posts when Cathy stops by, especially when she is decked out in her evening finery. As a person who has no need for evening finery, except maybe a fancy apron now and then, I love seeing her array of gowns. And isn't Peter patient with her...
ReplyDeleteHi Debi, I love the 1940s blouse etc- would be great for building up my clothes for lindy hopping! Just started to follow MPB - hilarious. Found his post on the dearth of patterns fascinating - 4th July. Thanks for hosting a give away!
ReplyDeleteOh yay, what an awesome giveaway! I'd love any of those patterns - I can't decide if the 1930's jacket or the 1940's collection is my favourite, it would be a hard call. (I have one very similar to that Maudella 1960's one though, so don't bother adding me to the draw for that particular pattern. Far better it go to someone who doesn't have one like it already. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI actually really like Peter's latest post - the 'name the pattern' one. Very amusing patterns to look at!
Such nice patterns and so darling of you to part with them. I really do love the 1930s to 1950s patterns - love the feminine silhouettes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite post by Peter? An impossible question! I love pretty much all of his posts and especially all including Cathy or the dogs. One of my favorites is the post on how he learnt to sew - a topic I always find very interesting in the sewing community.
And liked you on Facebook :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Debi, flattery will get you everywhere! ;)
ReplyDeleteBut I think you misunderstood, dear: I wasn't suggesting you host a giveaway, I was suggesting you GIVE away all your patterns -- to ME!
What a great idea,
ReplyDeleteI love the forties pattern me- My size too! ;-)
And ‘Fashion and the Flat-chested Femme’ on MPB is a good morale booster for me!
Tupney x
I'd love either of the maudella patterns. I can't pick a favorite post from peter there's too many: anything with Cathy, the men's shirt sewalong and all the analysis of old movies, I've found so many through him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway! I already follow you on facebook;-)
ReplyDeleteI would love, love to have the 40's or 50's pattern!
And about Peter: I love the fact that there is a male sewer out there! They are so rare.. I really like his posts where he talks about the clothes he's been sewing and the way he learnt sewing.. Always interesting to see a male side of sewing ;-)
Pick me! I would love to have McCall 3260 from 1939.
ReplyDeletePeter's maternity wardrobe for Cathy is my fave.
all though i love them all my favourite pattern is the 1960s Maudella, i have quite a collection of them. my favoutire post on MPD was "those sexy 70s butterick studs". i sew for my husband to be and he loves the 70s patterns
ReplyDeletewell this is just what I need! I had been thinking that my sewing had lost a vintage vibe, this is enough to spur me on though.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be entered for the 1940s pattern. Man, we can only pick one of his posts?? Where to start? I love anything with Cathy so I'd have to say Cathy's maternity shoot was one of my all-time faves. Especially the speculation about the father! And I didn't know you had a FB page! I'll like it so go ahead and put me in for two please. Thanks for sponsoring such a lovely giveaway. I've got my fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous giveaway! Please enter me for anything!
ReplyDeleteAs for Peter's blog... I've followed hims for some time now and cannot pick a favorite. Though I love any post in with Cathy appears...
I would be thrilled to win any of these - I would wear them all! Truly great picks from each decade. I'm already a follower of Peter's blog, and my favorite/most memorable post is when he took a photoshoot of Cousin Cathy in her maternity outfit. Classic!
ReplyDeleteThey are all wonderful, but I would really love to be in to win the 60's or 70's patterns.
ReplyDeleteAs to Peter's blog, my favourite is actually an older post I found recently, with Cathy modelling 'The Ugliest Pattern Ever!' - sheer genius!!
I love the 1930s jacket pattern! And it's just my size. :) I'm already a follower.
ReplyDeleteOh, me! For the 1939 pattern---just my size! And I'mm a sucker for a jacket pattern... :)
ReplyDeletetanitisis (at) gmail (dot) com
I absolutely love either of the Modella patterns - the 70s one includes my size while the 60s one is just one size too small so I could really use either. Thanks so much for your blog and the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love Peter's blog, but my favorite thing he does are the Ugliest Women's Patterns pinterest board :) Those are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteThat 30s suit has some fantastic lines.
ReplyDeletePeter's men's shirt sew-along series has some great tips I'm hoping I can try out soon!
Oomph! 1940s please! I love Peter's Sweetheart of the Navy post
ReplyDelete1950s for me please! I'm just experiencing thePeter's blog for the first time, so I don't have a favorite, but I'm following now!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to leave comments for ages and don't seem to have much luck getting through these days ... maybe it's because you're so popular Debi! Anyway, as I seem to be lucky this time, I just wanted to say that I was really sorry to hear about your cat at the time and glad to see you smiling again. The Tea Dance looked a lot of fun and congratulations also to David on the sewing and the MA!
ReplyDeleteWell, I really like the Maudella patterns 5094 and 5822, as the styles would look ok on me and the sizes are just right too. I've just joined Peter's website and I've enjoyed reading about Age Appropriate Dressing, giving much food for thought, as well as the 70's style section and all the 'dodgy' patterns therein! I also wish I could be in New York for the meet up, as I'm dying to visit the garment district at some point in my life! One day ...
I would like to enter for the 40s. It is adorabe!
ReplyDeleteI just started following MPB about a month or so ago and I love it! His post(s) and subsiquent pinterest board on worst women's patterns is hillarious. I mean bubble skirts make me chuckle everytime I see them now.
I love the 40's pattern - cute!
ReplyDeleteThe picture of Peter in the turquoise feather hat is adorable and keeps me smiling.
By the way, the little 60's suit is my absolute favourite ...
ReplyDeleteOMG, what a fabulous giveaway! I would looove the 1950's pattern, I follow on facebook, and here is my favorite post from Peter :)
ReplyDeletehttp://malepatternboldness.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/fabulous-feathery-flea-market-finds.html
I was thinking I ought to grab McCalls3260 somehow after your raving so I'm super excited it's part of the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love the 1930s jacket pattern!
ReplyDelete-Emily
The McCall Marlene jacket, of course. I really like the post about the pink shirt with the contoured bottom. I love it, yet he was critical, which I found oddly inspiring.
ReplyDelete~ * ♥ * ~
ReplyDelete*le gasp* That 40's pattern is simply divine! Please put my name down for that one... And my second choice is definitely that darling 50's dress pattern. And as for my favorite blog post from Peter, it would have to be Vintage or just plain OLD? because that post gave me the idea to thrift sheets and use them for sewing with. I haven't looked back since; it's a fabulous way to get a large amount of fabric cheaply!

My first choice would have been McCall 4113 until I saw you in McCall 4113. It looks better rendered than in the pattern illustrations. Very Well Done!!!
ReplyDeleteSo, for your give away, my choices are: #1) McCall 3260 - 1930's and #2) McCall 4113 - 1940's.
By the way, what pattern did you use for the trousers?
Thanks for the give away.
They're all great but my heart belongs to the 1940's!
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderfull is this! My choices are 40's and 50's patterns (I've been looking for suitable shorts for summer...). Now I'm just keeping my thumbs up :D
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I also like your fb page :D
ReplyDeleteI'd most like the 50s pattern best, then the the 40s.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy his vintage posts...don't have one that stands out more than the others.
Oh dear "I'd most like...best"! Well I really do most like the 50s best. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just liked your Facebook page.
ReplyDeleteI love the McCall's '50's dress and the McCall's jumper and I cannot decide which one I like best! The best posts on Peter's blog are his cousin Cathy's adventures, especially when sailors are involved!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely love the 50's day dress! My favorite post of Peter's blog is his one about vintage maternity wear. I've always wondered if vintage maternity patterns were still out there, and he did a wonderful recap.
