I'm about to share lots of photos of the costumes from Downton Abbey Season 3....so if you haven't seen any of the episodes and you want to be surprised by the outfits, then look away now. If seeing the costumes just gets you more excited and adds to your viewing pleasure, then keep reading! I promise not to give away any plots or storylines!
Cora's olive green or grey (?) dress with lace underlay and matching belt. I have to say how much I love Carson! Just look at him--he's so dignified:
Check out this amazing full length black beaded dress worn by Lady Mary:
I love Lady Mary's over the elbow matching black gloves!
This is one of my favourites from episode 1, the beautiful blue velvet just shimmers:
Look at Anna's amazing coat. I just love the bone detail in the back! The pleats! The shoulder detail! Exquisite!
Anna's coat and hat from the front. Don't the shoulder edges look like they have been overcast?
Ok, I don't feel like I'm giving this away because, well, we saw this coming from last season. I do love this image of everyone together:
Love, love, love, love! I would love to wear my hair like this everyday. So glamorous!
This is probably my favourite dress of the first
episode. I just love how the beading looks like a bow and I love the
low-slung belt:
You know I am a sucker for tweed. I just love both of these suits:
Here's a close-up of the suits. Love the collar detail on Lady Mary's suit. Her hat is also divine.
Which outfit is your favourite? Are you excited to see the 1920s fashion on the series this season?
Be still my heart! I cannot wait until this airs in the US. I actually DVR the show and re-watch it to sketch costumes! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI also can't wait! Anna's coat is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the new season!! I've always loved the 1920s look, but Downton Abbey really made me appreciate and love the Edwardian costumes. I can't wait to see (beyond your amazing pictures, of course) what they do with the costimes. January can't come soon enough!
ReplyDeleteWow, such eye candy! I'm guilty of admiring the costumes so much I sometimes lose the plot! I remember watching Brideshead Revisited as a young teen and swooning over the costumes; the early years were similar to this if I remember right. Oh, and belated congratulations on your new job, Debbie! I'm sure it's well deserved, and I love how you have both in your life - a purposeful job (not necessarily pretty) and such an appreciation for the beautiful. All the best!
ReplyDeleteDoes that fabulous hair do have a name? And how on earth does one go about re-creating such a thing?
ReplyDeleteOh, they are wonderful! Thanks so much for putting this together, Debi. Are you going to be cataloging all the costumes as we go along? (pretty please!)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until season 3 airs in the US! Gorgeous costumes!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you just made my day. Still waiting here in the U.S., so I'm so happy you posted these.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to try to document each episode! I am LOVING this season so far!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a finger wave style 'do. Usually it was done by styling the hair with lots of setting lotion and shaping the waves with your finger and a comb. They also had various head contraptions that looked like medieval torture devices that could make the waves. Though my favourite idea may come from David who said it looked like they used a paper towel roll to make the waves! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Eta! I agree that it's hard for me to focus on the plot AND the beautiful costumes which is why I want to go back and document them from each episode!
ReplyDeleteOoohh! I'd love to see some of your sketches!
ReplyDeleteYes, do love Carson! Not that fond of 20s styles, but love Mary's tweed suit... yummy.
ReplyDeleteBelated congratulations on your promotion! Your subject is so important. Thank you for doing it with such lovely devotion.
Yay for this! I'm so Downton starved in South Carolina! Marys suit is so sleek and lovely...but I love them all.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
ReplyDeleteThe costumes are such an inspiration. I love Anna's coat.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I'm counting the days until this starts back here in the US.
ReplyDeleteoooh, I can't wait until it hits the screens here in Australia. Those costumes are just divine! Thanks for the preview.
ReplyDeleteYAY!! I love love love Lady Mary and everything she wears - I would love to live in her closet. That's not creepy, is it?
ReplyDeleteI love Cora's olive green dress and the lace It is lovely. The black dress in the picture below is beautiful too. Last season, the girl that died, can't remember her name, had on a cream colored dress (I think I am remembering correctly) the night she took ill and that dress was beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! I feel a trend starting! I"ve been watching season three here in America and it's amazing. I've been impressed with the dresses in season 3. The downton ladies even have lovely pajamas! (last night's episode)
ReplyDeleteOh so lovely..I'm especially fond of the hair. Wish I had the patience!
ReplyDeleteI went to the "Halwylska museet" yesterday and wath their exhibition of clothes from Downtown Abbey. I didnt feel the fabric but I take loafs of photos!!
