Steamboat on the Mississippi

I'm now on vacation visiting my family in the Pacific Northwest but first I went to New Orleans for a conference last week.  New Orleans is a great city--I love it!  One of the highlights was going on a steamboat down the Mississippi!

I wore the dress that I made from the late 1940's pattern:

We were on the Steamboat Nantchez which was a short dinner cruise.  The day was absolutely beautiful and not too horribly hot (the breeze on the boat helped):

And we returned just as it was getting dark, for some beautiful view of the city from the water:

There was jazz music playing and it was a very nice trip!  Here are a few photos I found of ladies from the 1930's and 40's enjoying similar experiences:

One of my favorite photos is of this woman in the late 1940's who is definitely traveling in style!!!

This photo makes me smile and definitely makes me miss my sweetiepie who couldn't come with me to New Orleans.

Which photo is your favorite?  Do you have any vacation plans this month?

  1. That looks like a lot of fun! And you look gorgeous in your frock. Happy holidaying!

  2. Oh wow, that's looks great! Hope you're having a lovely holiday. Watch out for vampires (sorry - as a Brit, Twilight is my only reference point for the Pacific Northwest) xx

  3. That most beautiful photos! You have lots fun this days, Thanks for share whit we,

  4. Oh, wow!! I'm so envious - I've always wanted to go to New Orleans. Your photos are fantastic and my favourite is the city skyline. Beautiful!

    Hope you're having a fabulous vacation... :)

  5. Glad you are having such a wonderful time (though it's always much nicer with you have your SO with you). Our vacation plans are in place for September, when my daughter and her husband will be visiting with us from London for a week. I'm hoping we can return the favor later this fall and perhaps take some time in our beloved Scotland again.

  6. I love the photo of the girls leaning on the railing! I'm going on holiday in a few weeks too- to Darwin in Northern Australia (I live in Adelaide- Southern oz). It's currently about 13 degrees celcius here during the days but when we go up North it will be about 33! Can't wait to throw on a frock and have some fun in the sun!

I read each and every comment--thank you so much!
