Scotland Sundays: Edinburgh Christmas Market

Welcome to a new series on my blog called Scotland Sundays.  One of my big New Year's resolutions is to get out more and to do a bit of sightseeing in Scotland.  There's so much that David and I want to see and sharing it all with you while wearing some of my me-made garments sounds perfect!

Today was the last day of the Edinburgh Christmas Market, which is a perfect place to start.  This annual tradition in Edinburgh includes outdoor rides such as the carousel, ferris wheel and other more daring rides (jackhammer, giant bungee cord), a kiddy ride area, ice skating, mulled wine, cider and other holiday drinks and yummy food.  The actual christmas market area is taken down shortly after Christmas but the rides, food and everything else stays up through the beginning of January.

There is something about being outside during December and January in Scotland that really makes you feel the winter season!  I took the chance to wear my 1931 spring suit with my 1942 long-sleeve blouse made from a DuBarry pattern.  Nice n' toasty!

My new favourite find this year was the 'Nutella House'.  We had the Nutella donuts...yum!

I just love how the fair fits in with the buildings and landmarks of Prince's Street Gardens like the Walter Scott monument below.  Alas, we didn't work up the courage to go on the ferris wheel again after getting stuck up there last year.  Maybe next year!

Goodbye Christmas Market, I'll miss you!

  1. Yummy! I love nutella - I have it on toast, crackers and sometimes just straight out of the jar!  Your pictures are wonderful.  I was in Edinburgh many years ago (it was August) and I remember it being such an enchanting city - one of the places I want to revisit.
