I decided I needed a few quick wardrobe additions for Me-Made-May. Since I am not the world's quickest sewer, I decided to refashion a shirt I already have. I used McCall's 1521 (a very useful pattern) for the collar in view F (a basic peter pan collar). I had to redraft the collar to fit the shirt (added approximately 4 inches).
The inspiration to refashion the shirt came from Gertie's peter pan collar tutorial but also from Casey's refashion of a plain cotton t-shirt.
The shirt I refashioned is a vibrant purple cotton long-sleeve shirt that I've had for awhile:
I added the peter pan collar and sleeve cuffs with some remnants left over from the purple leaves fabric. Here's the whole outfit:
I cut the sleeves to 3/4 length which I like much better.
What do you think?
Oh wow, you're totally rocking the Make Do & Mend attitude! I think the shirt looks much better as you've done it. I'm really getting into stuff that hugs the natural waist these days -- so much more womanly, for some reason.
ReplyDeleteVery cute - this definitely looks more 'you' than the garment on the hanger!
ReplyDeleteI love it. It goes perfectly with your skirt and it has such a vintage feel to it.
ReplyDeletefab, as always.

ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea! I prefer knits but can't sew with them for beans, so this could be a solution to my problem.
ReplyDeleteGod! What a great idea! It's adorable
ReplyDeleteOooh I *love* that collar! I wouldn't have thought to add a collar - I usually rip things off of clothes, but I love this :D
ReplyDeleteYou did a really lovely job on the shirt.

ReplyDeleteI love that idea, taking a regular top from your closet and making a detachable collar and set of cuffs to match your skirt!
