Me-Made-May Day 8: The Refashioned Shirt

I decided I needed a few quick wardrobe additions for Me-Made-May.   Since I am not the world's quickest sewer, I decided to refashion a shirt I already have.  I used McCall's 1521 (a very useful pattern) for the collar in view F (a basic peter pan collar).  I had to redraft the collar to fit the shirt (added approximately 4 inches).

The inspiration to refashion the shirt came from Gertie's peter pan collar tutorial but also from Casey's refashion of a plain cotton t-shirt.

The shirt I refashioned is a vibrant purple cotton long-sleeve shirt that I've had for awhile:

I added the peter pan collar and sleeve cuffs with some remnants left over from the purple leaves fabric.  Here's the whole outfit:

I cut the sleeves to 3/4 length which I like much better.

  1. Oh wow, you're totally rocking the Make Do & Mend attitude! I think the shirt looks much better as you've done it. I'm really getting into stuff that hugs the natural waist these days -- so much more womanly, for some reason.

  11. What a brilliant idea! I prefer knits but can't sew with them for beans, so this could be a solution to my problem.
