What I do with my fabric scraps...

Just the other day, David and I were going through our closets and came across several nice pillow covers from our various travels.  We've found it hard to find the pillow inserts and were resigned to the fact that we would probably have to make a trip out to IKEA when suddenly I thought...'I know where I can get a lot of stuffing....my fabric scraps!'

I don't know why I didn't think of this before. It's a perfect solution.

You can fit a ton of fabric scraps into a pillow cover.  We have several that even had zippered backs which is perfect.  I'm always holding onto my fabric scraps because I think what if I need a bit of that fabric later on?  This is the best solution because I still have the fabric scraps if I need to use them but they are out of sight (and out of my sewing room) in a functional storage system of sorts.

One word of caution...no pillow-fighting with these pillows--the fabric scraps make them very heavy!

YAY! Now we have all our pretty pillow covers on display!  What are your clever ways of using (or storing) fabric scraps?

  1. That's brilliant. Now, you've secretly stored your scrap stash all over the house and no one will ever know :-). What a beautiful solution!

This is how all of my grandma's pillows were. She never bought a single pillow in her life.

  4. Hey Debi! I made a wonderful infant car seat cover with my scraps of fabric, it keeps peeping grandmas and germs away from my baby in the grocery store. I have gotten so many compliments on it!

Ha!  I did he same thing a few years ago when I was having a purging fit and wanted to get rid of all my fabric scraps.  Last month I decided to get rid of that pillow, and when I opened it up, I found so many useful small pieces that I'm really glad I didn't toss.  Yay for semi-hoarding.

  7. I've done the same as you and used them as pillow stuffing. Like you say, such a useful way of using them without throwing them away in case you do need them later! It's a win win situation!

  9. omg, that is brilliant!  i have so many because i can't throw them away.  i always think i'll make a quilt out of them, but i'd have to make at least 50 quilts to tame them.....

  10. Genius! Thanks Debi. This is a great storing solution to scrap overload. Just have to make some cushion covers now!

  11. That is genius! I had been wondering if I could use some of my scraps for stuffing (as I hate throwing anything out). It's good to know it works and I love the idea of being able to easily access the scraps if I need to!
