It's my birthday, it's my birthday, I'm gonna party like it's my birthday...woot, woot!!!
I've had a fabulous birthday today! First off, yesterday I went to a local charity shop and came home with 20 yards of fabric! I kid you not. And 75% of it was wool...oh, how I love Scotland!
In addition to the fabric, I got 49 vintage zippers and a bunch of hook and eye closures and snaps, as well as thread!
David and I started out the day at a lovely little tea parlour called Eteaket. Their motto is:
We took a quick walk around Edinburgh. The Christmas market is still going on:
After that, we checked out the vintage stores in Edinburgh. The most amazing store is Armstrongs....it is absolutely wonderful...floor to ceiling vintage fashion:
This is definitely the place to come if I need to buy a little hat or vintage gloves to match an outfit!
Then we went to the fabric store....I walked away with some lovely lightweight wool (more wool---I love it so much!) and some very soft viscose:
Finally, we capped off the wonderful day with a lovely dinner at a local vegetarian restaurant. For dessert, I had chocolate souffle...yummy!
And when we walked outside...it was snowing! What a perfect birthday! Thank you all for your lovely birthday wishes!
Happy Birthday. It sounds like you had a wonderful day. You struck gold at that charity shop. I love buying second hand fabric and notions. It's so much cheaper.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful fabrics! Edinburgh looks like its treating you well. And a belated Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're going to love Edinburgh. I'd love to visit the city sometime, instead of just driving through...
Oh My God you've just described my ultimate Perfect Day! To the letter! Happy Birthday and best wishes. I'm happy to see Armstrongs still ROCKS!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, what a way to celebrate! Don't you love getting great fabric at thrift store prices? The vintage market looks amazing, I would be so broke if I lived near that......Hope the next year is good to you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Debi, sounds like you really did have the perfect day! All your fabric scores will come in handy with your Sew Weekly challenge ;o)
ReplyDeleteYay Princess Street, the gardens and the Scott memorial! The DH and I love Edinburgh (we also love the McBackpackers cheap hostel and small bus transport tours that leave out of several places in Edinburgh). Yes, there are parts that frankly, you want to take a giant cookie cutter and lift out because of the huge number of tourists but it's still wonderful there. Great theatre. And frankly, no matter what trip we've taken, I've seen girls and women dressing and wearing makeup and their hair in fashions that we did not see in the States until 4 years later.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and many, many happy returns of the day. You did make out like a bandit! Can't wait to see what you make!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful, wonderful day. Happy Birthday you lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and what an amazing day you had! Looking forward to your 2011 creations with that haul!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have settled into your new flat, good luck with all that unpacking!!
After changing my mind 3 times on fabric choice, I will this week be commencing on making up the gorgeous 30's skirt pattern you sent me in a lovely dark olive green linen. Will blog and post pics soon.
Have a great weekend! x
Happy Birthday what a wonderful day you have had.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! It sounds like you had a positively perfect day!
ReplyDeleteArmstrongs! That was the name of that shop that had MILES of cashmere jumpers! *swoon*
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy birthday, dear Debi! It looks like you had a marvellous day and were delightfully spoiled (and rightly so!). I am envious over all the beautiful wool and notions you found.
Chocolate souffle? YUM!!! I think I've been to that vegetarian restaurant, too...just can't remember the name!
YOU are perfect, and so deserving of the best things in life.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad we've moved to Edinburgh - I know it will be a very happy time!
The fabrics from the charity shop are beautiful, and I can't wait to see what you make with them. The Hepburn outfit in the tweed and viscose is going to be rowr-worthy. You're going to look so good in that.
I love you, and hope this year brings great happiness to us both!
Much love,
>'.'<
Happy, Happy birthday Debi, I'm so glad you had such a wonderful day, exactly how birthdays should be. I'm SOOO envious of your charity shop finds, it definitely must be a Scotland thing, I've hardly ever seen any dressmaking bargains in my part of London! x
ReplyDeleteOh, happy happy birthday! It sounds like you had a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteWhere abouts in edinburgh is the fabric shop?
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for the lovely wishes--It was a truly lovely day!
ReplyDelete@Miss1940: the shop is located in the Newington area of Edinburgh
Happy Birthday! What a wonderful Birthday treat! :D
ReplyDeleteSounds great! I don't think I could convince my husband to do that much clothing and fabric shopping, even on my birthday!
ReplyDeleteGood find with the charity shopping! If you're looking for some total bargains, there's a hearing dogs for the deaf shop in Mussleburgh that's totally worth a look. The quality of their stuff isn't that great, lots of rubbish, but it's so cheap and when you do find a treasure, it's totally worth it! I get a lot of my vintage clothes for Etsy from there and they have a huge selection of bedding that's great for cheap fabric. There's also a Scrap Store in Mussleburgh that's FULL of fabric and wool, only £7 to join for a year!
ReplyDeleteP.S. LOVE Eateket!
Happy Birthday! What an absolutely fabulous day!
ReplyDeleteChocolate AND fabric? What a lucky, lucky, girl. I'm so envious. :) Now I know what to ask for on my birthday.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a perfect day! Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
ReplyDeleteoh I love Edinburgh, have been to Armstrongs and they have great veggie restaurants, which one did you go to, have been to a couple there.
Happy Birthday Debi (a few days late!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had such a cool day - very perfect! (And your post has whet my appetite as we're coming to Scotland for a few days next weekend & will have a day in Edinburgh - woo hoo! However, doubt it will be the same kind of experience as it is for my man's birthday - plus will there be any fabric left now in any of the charity shops??!!!)
Happy (belated) birthday .. Jan 8th? same as Elvis and David Bowie .. an auspicious date indeed ;) xx
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely birthday, Debi! It was my birthday the other day but I spent it at work :( I overdid the caffeine just to make it a bit more exciting! x
