If you get the Sew Weekly newsletters (which are great because they have a weekly giveaway!), you'll know that this next week's theme is Something Floral, Something Blue. Turns out that most people have some sort of blue floral fabric in their stash....which may not be far from the truth because I actually do (one of only two floral fabrics in my stash is blue!). I got some amazing blue crepe floral fabric on ebay UK (I think 4 meters for £2.99!!) I was really excited when I got it (I got it awhile back) as the first fabric listed on most of my patterns is crepe. So this will be my first time sewing with crepe fabric and I am super excited!
So, I'm going to start on this pattern tomorrow (and you can see the fabric I am using as well):
I am going to try view B with the short-sleeves. This looks like a fairly straight forward pattern to sew. But I've learned awhile ago not to try and predict the 'easy to sew' versus the complicated patterns. The first pattern I ever did was marked 'easy to sew' and it took a couple of years (and lots of alterations), whereas the EvaDress 1933 outfit looked complicated but was very straightforward. I'll just go with the flow and see where it takes me!
What about you? Do you have any blue floral fabric in your stash? Do you ever misjudge whether a pattern is easy or hard?

ReplyDeleteOh wow, both pattern and fabric are lovely. It shall look stunning- It’s funny as I tend to choose fabrics then find sewing patterns using a similar print, then think, I know what to use that fabric on or visa versa! As with the ‘Easy Sewing’ statement- any sewing pattern is a trial with me, I must just be a knitter I guess!

ReplyDeleteI don't have any floral fabric but I try not to keep too much of a stash since I don't have room for storage. That being said, I'm really keen to introduce some florals this spring.
I love this week's dress pattern! I tend to avoid true blues, as they tend to wash me out. I do have some teal and turquoise florals in my stash.
ReplyDeleteI tend to approach everything thinking it'll be easy and generally finding it's not as easy as I thought! I prefer to think of it as a positive "can do" attitude rather than being completely naive..!

And i agree with you on the easy patterns i made a skirt the other week using a vintage vogue pattern that was marked easy, it was not it was more complicated than the others. Oh yes, how funny! I do have a gorgeous blue floral fabric I picked up at a car boot sale last year. Love it so much I'm a bit scared of cutting it. It needs to be for the right project.

ReplyDeleteI misjudge patterns all the time. Sometimes, it's not so much the pattern, but the confusing instructions that get me. I swear, there were some Vogue instructions writers that had a wicked sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern! I also misjudge patterns but I'm rather a novice. The current blouse I'm almost done with has come out nicely except I didn't really think ahead of time that the bold print and gathers on the front ended up a bit too busy. Oh well, I'm learning. :)
ReplyDeleteI adore that fabric. By total coincidence, I just bought some blue floral rayon for a blouse-- this was before I read the Sew Weekly post about the blue floral challenge! It must be wishful spring thinking going around.

ReplyDeleteThat fabric is GORGEOUS--I'm coveting it! ;) It's funny that this week's Sew Weekly theme revolved around blue fabric--I just got a length of a light turquoise blue fabric last week for my Swing Dress. ;) lol. I got a chuckle out of that coincidence!

Ohhh, I think this print will work beautifully with that pattern! I have been watching all the fun at Sew Weekly (no way could I ever keep up, still a newbie!) and love seeing everyone's results. Yours will be beautiful, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteSo far as difficulty...Yes, I recently made a shirt for my husband for Christmas. It looked like a fairly straightforward pattern, but of course it couldn't work out that way. I was finishing it up the night before we left to celebrate Christmas with the family! I felt like a spy, sewing in secret. LOL
