The lovely Nancy from Fancy Moon sent me the fabric I used for my 1950's shirtwaist dress and it was a really great high-quality cotton and the print was just perfect for recreating the 1950's look! In addition to high-quality and Japanese cottons, Fancy Moon also has corduroy, cotton lawn, gauze, double gauze and interior fabrics!
I'm now on the look-out for more fabulous fabric to make additional 1950's shirtwaist dresses (and maybe a circle skirt) and these are some of my top picks:
While I probably wouldn't make a shirtwaist dress out of the airplane fabric below, wouldn't it be perfect in some sort of 1940's outfit (maybe as a blouse with a coordinating blue skirt)?
I'm dying to make a shirtwaist out of some adorable kitten fabric, with a contrasting collar and maybe contrasting trim at the bottom? Check out these adorable kitten fabrics:
Take a look at the Fancy Moon website and leave a comment below saying your ideas on which fabric you'd choose and, if you like, what you'd make with it. The closing date is Friday the 11th of November at midnight GMT. I'll pick the winner at random and post the results on the following Saturday! The giveaway is open internationally. A big thank you to Fancy Moon for opening the giveway to readers everywhere!
For additional entries, you can:
- Blog about the giveaway and come back and leave a link to your blog entry in the comments;
- Tweet about the giveaway and let me know you've done that in the comments;
- Write a note/status message on your Facebook page about the giveaway. Again, just come back here and leave a comment letting me know you've done that!
Good luck everyone!!
What a great giveaway! I'd love to make a button up shirt with the Downtown Dot Sand by Alexander Henry.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway!! Would love some of the kittens.
ReplyDeleteIt'd have to be the Alexander Henry Regent Peacock Lawn combined with Colette Pattern's Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind some Alexander Henry Blue Bell cotton lawn to play with...
I did leave a note on my fan page carmencitablog.
Thank you so much for setting this up.
I've also done a post about your giveaway on my blog where I've also got a giveaway of my own going for the new pattern from Sewaholic!
ReplyDeleteCame here by way of Vickikate!
ReplyDeleteI love the Rowan Westminster graphic prints. I'd lovel to make a blouse.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Funnygrrl
Oooh it's got to be anything with kittehs on it :) A vintage peter pan collared shirt would fit the bill nicely I think - and 2 meters would be enough!
ReplyDeleteAgony! Absolute agony, choosing. But seeing as I am soon to make a jacket to cycle in using Sewaholic's new pattern, I'll go for Bicycle Brown, Echino Nico, Etsuko Furuya, Kokka Fabric. Thank you so much to Debi and Fancy Moon for this chance!
ReplyDeleteI do love that green Joel Dewberry fabric that you picked out above, it's got a great 1930s feel to it. I'd love a blouse made from that, although I'm not sure if the weight would be suitable.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway!
I love the cute sweets by lecein fabrics. I think the fabric is perfect for a apron and 2 yards of it wold be just enough.
ReplyDeleteAmazing giveaway! I have facebooked it (http://www.facebook.com/threadcarefully), tweeted it (@tabatha_tweedie) and now here's my comment for a third entry! I have been lusting after Cosmo Rose Stone by Cosmo textiles for several months now. Think I'd use it for another Colette Chantilly dress (I know I'd have to buy a bit extra to do this but it would definitely be worth it!). Thanks for the opportunity to win. tabathatweedie@gmail.com x
ReplyDeleteHmm, choices choices! Although I'm not sure, I'm pretty taken by the Koi with Lotus and Waves and can see something fitted, maybe a blouse to be tucked into a high-waisted red skirt. Great giveaway, thanks! jwintour at xtra dot co dot nz
ReplyDeleteI'd make a vintage inspired dress out of the Blue Bell Cotton Lawn Alexander Henry fabric. Love the flowers! Great giveaway! thenakedseamstress AT gmail DOT com
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'd get the Bon Vivant Paris, and maybe make a dress or a Tova top. So cute!
ReplyDelete1)I love the DressmakingSewing Notions Pattern by Red Roaster. I can still not sew that well after doing a 3 year course so simplicity pattern 2314 would be my choice. Dream pattern is vogue 1043.
ReplyDelete2) I have facebooked at http://www.facebook.com/#!/moniquel.myers1
l love the Trios cotton lawn, Fulham Road collection by Alexander Henry. I would love to make a dress out of this!
ReplyDeleteI love these two prints: http://www.fancymoon.co.uk/shop-by-theme/retro-1920-1980/retro-english-press-poppy-timeless-treasures-fabric-4242.html and http://www.fancymoon.co.uk/shop-by-theme/retro-1920-1980/springtime-in-paris-3367.html. I'm not sure what I'd make with them, but it would have to be something with simple lines to really show off the print!
ReplyDeleteAnd I shared on my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/starspangledheart
ReplyDeleteFab giveaway! I'd go for Vintage labels in steel to make an overnight bag :)
ReplyDeleteI love Fancy Moon... My favourite fabric is the Flower Sugar Rosebuds Green, by Lecien, and I would love to sew a shirt dress. Count me in for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteSo hard to choose, I actually have a list! Kaffe Fassat are just beautiful and colourful, then the Eton butterfly, but probally my favourite is the forest floral, and I would make a cute slightly fitted dress.
ReplyDeleteNo need to enter me into the giveaway, as I can barely sew and still somehow have a massive stash of fabric (charity shopped mostly, at least) but I love the aeroplane one!
ReplyDeleteI just got the Pendrell pattern and have been searching for the perfect fabric to use it with. I think it would be amazing in the Harajuku Peony by Alexander Henry.
ReplyDeleteallison.titman@gmail.com
I cannot choose, the variety is amazing.. I would do vintage inspired aprons and some cute bags with Alexander Henry.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely get the Harajuku Peony Bright, Indochine by Alexander Henry. It's just gorgeous. I would make it into Simplicity 3034, a slim-skirted shirtwaist dress. Totally inspired by yours!
ReplyDeleteoooh so many pretty fabrics!! i think i would go with the arrow indigo (http://www.fancymoon.co.uk/shop-by-type-1/printed-cotton-fabric/arrow-indigo-2737.html) and use it to make up advance 2540 (which is, yep, a shirtwaist! haha!).

I agree with the other posters, So many choices!
ReplyDeleteI think I would go with Mirage Navy, Nicole's Prints by Alexander Henry and do a little pinup-y beach outfit

ReplyDeletehttp://www.fancymoon.co.uk/shop-by-type-1/cotton-lawn/eton-butterfly-cream-2795.html to make a shirtwaist out of. :)
ReplyDeleteI would really like the butterfly fabric that you show in the post, to make a kimono out of it. Actually, if I don´t win, I might have to buy it...
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to make myself a shirt dress too! But I never seem to get around to making stuff for myself because I'm usually sewing for my kids.
ReplyDeleteIf I won I would pick fabric for ME - Far Far Away, Snow White Green, and make myself a 1950's shirt dress. I think the two would make a lovely combo.
They are all so gorgeous! I think my favourite would be Ruby Star Teatime Jade. I would love to make a dress out of it to wear for the tea parties I love to host :)
ReplyDeleteI'd use pleasures and pastimes by Robert Kaufman to make myself a 1950's rockabilly style shirt. I bought some of the fabric (from that very shop actually) to make a cushion set for a friend who is into vintage horror for his birthday a few months ago, and could barely bring myself to sew them up and give them away it was such nice fabric! I'd love to have some to make something for me out of!
ReplyDeleteLaura :-) walmsley.laura@gmail.com
I would love to make an apron for baking christmas cookies from the "The Ghastlies Smoke, Haunted House, Alexander Henry" fabric.
ReplyDeleteOr I would turn "Flap Purple, Echino, Etsuko Furuya for Kokka" into a pretty a-line skirt to walk around a park in spring!
I love two of them equally: the Wild Blue Yonder print you have above and the Botanica Bees. I would make a dress out of the fabric.

ReplyDeleteOh man, there's so many interesting fabrics...
ReplyDeleteMaybe Nora Neko? Or maybe the Farm Fresh Root Cellar in teal... Or Owl Flower... There's so many cute ones!
And I'd likely make some kind of top with it. :) Two yards isn't really enough for a dress for me.
I choose "Fiesta de San Marcos" for a skirt - it is a STUNNING design and would be a dream to sew.
ReplyDeleteFabulous giveaway, I would use Nutmeg Seeds Green, SE1 for Robert Kaufman, and I would make a 3/4 sleeve 50s blouse with fold back cuffs, hard to explain but one of my favourite 50s shirts, which looks great in bold prints!

I am in love with Blue Bell from the Fulham Road Collection by Alexander Henry. It would have to become a Colette Chantilly. I've been hanging out to make that dress for a while now.
ReplyDeleteWow how difficult was that - trying to pick through all that gorgeous fabric! I do love the ghastlier fabric but I have no idea where I would use it. So i think i would have to choose the Serape stripe bold - I love the colours and I love stripes! This would have to be made into a gorgeous shirtdress I think.
ReplyDeleteWould love to make a Colette Patterns Parfait with Forest Floral Turquoise!
