Almost Done!

I'm almost done with my birthday dress suit.  I really love it.  I just need to hem the dress and the jacket and attach the last of the buttons which I'll do tomorrow after work.  My goal is to post the outfit photos before my birthday month is over!!

Here's a sneaky peek:

You can check out the pattern I used (a 1937 McCall pattern) here...

My esteemed sewing assistant, Echo, was very helpful during the dress construction phase:

YAY!  I'm super excited.  My sewing mojo got a major upswing after the Crafters' Ceilidh meet-up--and I'm sewing non-stop!

What are you working on at the moment?

  1. Your assistant looks most valuable. Someone's got to paw through those scraps.

  2. Aww, with an assistant like that, how can you go wrong? Looking forward to seeing your birthday suit... just kidding, birthday suit DRESS!

I'm currently working on a UFO... you know when you've forgotten the difficulties you had with a project, so you bring it back out to quickly finish it, but run smack-dab into the issues you had in the first place? BLERG.

  3. That's fun, I didn't know you worked too, I thought you were a full time seamstress. Wow, you get a lot done for a working girl. Can't wait to see your suit. Happy Birthday!

  8. My idiot cat, Ninny, also likes to "help" me. His favorite thing to do is to knock spools of thread onto the floor. (I did not name the cat; he came to us already named. He has more than lived up to it.) Am making a blouse from McCall's, M5522, for the 8th or 9th time. LOVE the shape of this thing, and it is beautifully drafted. Sadly for those who did not snatch it up when it was first published, it is now OOP. Also trying a yoked, raglan-sleeved New Look coat from a piece of hideous green-white plaid polyester doubleknit from the 1970s, lined with an old bed sheet. At least I think it is hideous. Can't tell for sure ... I kind of like it ... sometimes ... but it is probably hideous.

  9. Intriguing! Look forward to seeing the finished suit.

I have to shut one of my cats out of the room when I lay out patterns as she loves to pounce on the paper and hide under it, so quite a few of my pattern pieces end up with claw marks!

  10. Can't wait to see it, your outfits never disappoint. I am working on a jacket and hating the fabric I chose but I am determined to finish it because I am hoping it will turn out well and I will have more experience with different fabric types...

  11. I love seeing your creations so I can't wait to see the birthday suit dress! I am working on my "rough draft" for a top I plan on wearing to a military ball in March (and yes I'm getting started now so I'm not rushing through it!) I also plan on making a fur wrap to wear with it.
