My 1933 Outfit...

This week we are going back a decade to 1933 for both the Sewing Through the Decades and the Sew Weekly Challenges.  I finished the EvaDress reproduction pattern of the Katherine Hepburn frock!  I absolutely love it!!   Here's the photos....

I adore the jacket details:

I did my hair in pincurls and slept on them--they turned out perfectly!

And the back (I was having fun with the black and white photo setting!):

More jacket details:

Full-length view.  I shortened the skirt by several inches (but I have to do that on every pattern).  I also had to shorten the scarf by about 2.5 inches.  Instead of sewing an closure around the wrist (with snaps), I left out the closure (i.e. just closed the seam all the way down the arm) and since I made it with lightweight wool that has a bit of stretch, I can easily fit it over my hands but still have the tight sleeves (which I love)!

 hehehehe...I like this photo:

Another close-up of the jacket:

What do you think?  Also, which photo do you think I should submit for the EvaDress competition?

  4. What a gorgeous dress, and your pincurls look perfect! These photos are all really nice, but the first one looks like a genuine vintage photo, I thought it was when I saw it!

  5. Wow that jacket looks amazing and you look so beautiful. It must have taken you ages to make there's a lot of detail in it. Your hair looks so shinny and soft love the curls. I like all your photo's but my favourite is the one of you stood by the black railings towards the end of your post. Good luck, Dee

  6. Beautiful! The vintage look suits you so well, you look amazing, very classic! picking a photo is a tough one, theyre all lovely! I think my favourite is the one where you say 'hehehehe...I like this photo:' but i dont think it shows the wonderful details of the jacket well enough :S hmm, in that case, i agree with Miss P, i'd go with the last 2 :)

  8. Beautiful! You've really captured a 1930's look! I'd submit the first picture for the EvaDress competition. The dress, you, and the background are all perfect!

  9. Totally stunning! I think #7 and #1 both show off the complete dress best, there are photos I think are better of *you* but the dress isn't as clear in them. Good luck, it's amazing!!

  10. Totally gorgeous! Everything detail is perfect. I think the first picture would be a great one for the competition

  11. Amazing (as always)! I agree on picture 7 - it's not the best picture of you but it shows the dress best.
Or maybe take another with you posing in a similar way to the pattern - I like seeing a direct comparison to the concept picture!
The pictures are all lovely though, and 1 is awesome!

  12. Absolutely should be submitted to the EvaDress competition! It turned out beautifully: just love how perfectly the wool worked out for the top. The front sash drapes so nicely and I just adore the buttons.
This would have taken me months to finish!! How do you do it?

  13. You seriously made the whole thing that quickly?! And it looks totally stunning - that jacket is so unique! I like the first photo best.

  17. Wow, wow, wow and wow! This is amazing and presumably you can wear that jacket with anything!? I love it Debi and your hair is perfect too. Can you only chose one photo to submit? They're all so good, but I would go for the 2nd to last because it shows off the full outfit and is close up enough to see the detail.

  20. Oh my god, that is amazing. Possibly one of the most beautiful makes I've ever seen on a blog. You should be very, very proud of yourself. And the photos are beautiful. I think I like the photo of you stood on the stairs, gripping the hand railing.

  21. Lovely! It turned out so well. I really like the antiqued full length photo towards the bottom. And you're absolutely right; your curls came out perfectly!

  22. That is absolutely beautiful! I'm usually more of a 1940s girl, but this look is so gorgeous I may invest in some 1930s patterns soon... :) Congratulations on a roaring success! Oh and my favourite picture is the one of you leaning against the wall and looking a bit cheeky :)

  23. The jacket came out amazing and you look breathtaking! I can't really pull off 30s styles but I admire though who can. And you do it so, so well!

  27. I absolutely love the jacket! It's so vintage but modern at the same time, and the buttons are a really nice touch. The background is beautiful, you're so lucky to be in Scotland! Lovely photos!

  28. Breathtaking! The dress, the jacket, your hair, everything! I love the dramatic photo - the one with the vignette, and I love the black and white one of you coming down the stairs.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It looks so great on you! This is not a design I'd have thought would be really wearable out and about nowadays, but you certainly pull it off! I think it would be gorgeous as a wedding dress with the top done in an ivory satin.

I love the b&w back view, but I think the photo that best showcases the dress for the competition is the eighth one down, with you leaning back against the wall.

  30. Beautiful outfit and hair! I really enjoyed the photos, too.

  33. Oh WOW. STUNNING! One of my favorites that you've ever made. ...I must guiltily admit that as great as this look is, I want so badly to borrow the jacket and style it super-modern with short shorts or something.

  34. You look absolutely stunning. I admire your sewing skills. This is probably my favourite piece of your work too. The pictures are amazing. I think you could use any of them, if I had to pick, I'd go for one of the black and white ones or the sort of sephia one. Great outfit Debi. I am loving the hair too.

  40. Oh it is gorgeous! I love it, well done! As for photos, the last two show off the jacket (evidently the focal point) beautifully. I also like the dated one, the one you mentioned liking looks like its come straight from the pages of a magazine! Good luck with the contest!

  47. Amazing! Your hair, the dress, the jacket.....AWESOME!
    So beautiful I'm stunned.

Any chance we could get a picture of the jacket front before the scarves are done up? I've drooled over that pattern for an age and would love to understand it a bit more.

I think the last photo is my fav.
