This week is perfect for some Mad Men inspiration as the premiere of season 5 starts this weekend (for those in the U.S.). I might just have to have a two hour skype session this weekend with one of my friends stateside :)
There's so many outfits from Mad Men that I would love to recreate and that inspire my sewing. So I thought I would share the outfit that I've been working on lately. This outfit is one that I just couldn't get out of my head and have been thinking about sewing for ages.

I love Betty's riding jacket with the notched collar, tweed wool fabric and slightly longer length. Maybe it's because it reminds me of the tweeds in Downton Abbey or from Ralph Lauren's recent collection that I posted about here. There's something about this classic jacket that is screaming that it needs to be in my wardrobe.
I also adore her bow tied mandarin style blouse. While I originally thought I would do a blouse in yellow like the one above. I think I like the blue riding blouse she wears in another episode:

What about you? Are you working on a Mad Men creation this week (for the Sew Weekly theme or Julia Bobbin's Mad Men Dress Challenge)?
I'm not participating in any of these challenges, but I love seeing everybody's inspirations and projects! Betty's riding outfit has always been a favorite of mine, too. Totally not my style, but so perfect for her character in that situation. Mad Men is such a huge source of eye candy! :)
ReplyDeleteoh i love your inspiration.. definitely a different one.. and i can't wait to see what it gonna look like.. i'm still trying to find some time to make my dress for the challenge, still not sure what i might come up with..

For Sew Cinematic I want to make a Joan inspired dress, hopefully I can get it done in time!
ReplyDeleteLove Betty's outfit that you posted!
I just posted my Sew Weekly projects on my blog. It was fun looking at wardrobe from the show and trying to come up with something to match it.
ReplyDeleteI had no time to join this challenges, but I can't wait to see what people do,
ReplyDeleteYes, I did!! look at my blog:-)!

I cannot wait to see how your creation turns out!
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspired choice! I also considered that if I was taking part in the challenge, I wouldn't choose to make a dress - I love the idea of making an outfit like the ones Peggy's feminist friend wears with the cigarette pants. Unfortunately without a sewing machine I definitely couldn't finish something in time! I can't wait to see your creation!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is! I can't wait for this next season to start!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you come up with! Which character has your favourite style?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can't wait to see your Joannie inspired dress! She has the best wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED YOUR Joan-Lite outfit! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOh, the cigarette pants! I just love them. Betty also has a pair of plaid cropped trousers that I love!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bethany!
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun seeing everyone's creations!
ReplyDeleteYes I love Betty's riding outfit, so neat and proper on her. Joan is my favorite as she has the body that just won't quit, they really tailor those clothes to a tight fit on her! I can't wait to see what you come up with as I have missed seeing your creations on this blog.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you should totally make that jacket and blouse combination - it would look stunning on you! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty Mad Men outfits I want to make, but now is just not the right time for it. Maybe this time next year, when I can fit into those styles again...
I've missed the last few SW Challenges, and am afraid to look at the Mad Men entries because I'm behind in the show :) But I just love Betty's riding outfit, and I know you're going own it!!! I'm still planning on my b&w striped Lady Mary blouse, and in June, I think I'll tackle my Bombshell.
