I am super excited that I finished the sundress (well, almost--I haven't completely finished hemming it yet).
Here's some photos at the Falkland Palace Garden. It's got a great pleat in the front of the dress:
Nevermind how pasty white I am! hehehe. I am hoping this sundress will bring out the sun!!
I love the stripes on this dress--they are pink and cream. I've never sewn anything with stripes before but I really like it because it is very easy to match up!
I also really like the back of the dress. Here you can see the pattern detail:
And in my dress:
Overall, I really like it! There was a lot of hand sewing/hemming which took awhile but other than that it was pretty straight forward to put together. I am looking forward to wearing it in a warmer climate next week when I go to Washington DC for a conference!
Your dress is gorgeous.

You did a great job on this, sweetiepie. It looks amazing on you, and the details are really well done.
ReplyDeleteooh, that looks so cute and fresh! The back is really special.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this. A lot. Those stripes are cool.
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks lovely! You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteLooks super comfortable with those pleats! Feminine and easy to wear! fab!
ReplyDeletePretty dress, really love the back! I worry about matching stripes and stuff too! But you've done a fab job!
ReplyDeleteOh it's lovely, you look fab. And with matching stripes too, well done!
ReplyDeleteI love that dress, it's amazing!! And you are definitely 'pale and interesting' rather than 'pasty' :)!!
ReplyDeleteI love the buttons on the back of that dress, and it looks so nice with your snood!

As always, Debi, you look so beautiful! :) What a wonderful job you've done on the dress! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThe stripes are a perfect choice for that pattern. What a cute dress!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! That translated really nicely into a real live dress (something I always worry about is if the dress will look like the envelope!) I love the back buttons. Perfect with your perky snood too!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! Stripes are my favorite pattern to work with. Your pale skin is gorgeous, not pasty- luminous.
ReplyDeleteLove it! So pretty... and the fabric is perfect.
ReplyDeleteHave fun wearing it to your conference. Pack the snood too! :0)
You look beautiful Debi! It would look lovely in a bold floral too - what a perfect summer dress!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet, especially the snood-lipstick-buttons coordination!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have somewhere warm to wear your sundress... I'm wrapped in a wool shawl at my desk here in London!
It came out so pretty! I love the back wrap detail. Are just the buttons holding it together?
ReplyDeleteAnd don't bet on warm weather...it was 40F this morning in RI.
That is a lovely dress. I love the back details and the stripes. You look so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress, you did a fabulous job. My attempt at matching stripes is not going so well.
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty dress. Was is actually warm enough in Scotland to ge by with somehting sleeveless? We are freezing our kippers off here in Lincolnshire!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress, and such gorgeous photos. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletePretty! Love the back-wrap detail :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the fabric and the snood. All your photographs are picture perfect too. You wear it well.

Can't wait to see some more of your projects!
Very cute, the dress is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!! I love the red snood and lips, too. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! you did a fabulous job! I want to see photos or you wear it in Washington DC. Please! Please!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Good work, Debi! xx
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity: What pattern number is this?
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! The back really makes it sing. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDelete@littleblackcar: it's McCall 4043 with the copyright 1940. But this is interesting because I know several pattern numbers before that in the early 4000's are from 1941!! So a very interesting pattern!
Hey, how does the dress open/close? Does it have a zip or does it have a cross over back with the buttons on the back as a closure?
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteThe only closure on the dress is those two little buttons at the back! Though they are fairly secure :-)
It's very cool. Do you have any problems with the back wrap flapping open at all?
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel....So far I haven't had any problems. It's a fairly heavy cotton material. Though I must say, I haven't taken it out on any windy days yet :-)
