Fashion Inspiration: Striped Sundresses

Ever since making my last dress, I can't get the iconic 1940 striped sundress off my mind!  I am eagerly awaiting next summer to make some more striped sundresses!  One pattern I would love to find is McCall 3580 which I have only seen illustrated in a striped fabric:

And here it is again:

The pattern also comes with an adorable waist length jacket:

Here's the actual pattern from Vintage Wiki:

Isn't it lovely?

  2. That's adorable! And they really, really want you to make it in multicolor stripes, don't they. I hope you do!

  4. Debi - very cute!
Question: Not being a seamstress myself (but slowly being inspired to give it a try) - I'm wondering if it's harder to sew with a striped print. Would you have to be more careful about how you lay out the pattern pieces?

  5. Hi Susan--yes, you have to be a bit more careful about laying out the pattern pieces but I've found it fairly easy (and even fun!) to try and line up the stripes!

  7. Believe it or not, I actually own that pattern. It's very nice, does have some very odd design details that you have to have the pattern to see. I suppose I should make it up one of these days.
