That's Sew Cinematic Style Inspiration: Marlene!

Marlene Dietrich's style inspires me so much:

I'm really attracted to her masculine suits at the moment.  I just love her strong style, which is also very feminine.  I'm hoping to sew something up as a tribute to Marlene....hey, I've already got the suit jacket done....but I better hop on it because summer's just around the corner and her style is definitely more suited (pardon the pun!) to spring/autumn.  Tell me, are you a Marlene fan?  Do you love her siren gowns or her masculine suits or both?

  1. Love Marlene! She toured in Europe {ETO} to entertain the troops. That's always gets an OK in my book!

  2. Ooooh!  I have a nice big file of Marlene inspiration.. I love how she does that "voluptuous androgyny" thing... She really pulls it off.. Dressed in menswear, dressed in siren gowns, it's all the same because she's so strong and mysteriously sensual..

  3. I really like Marlene Dietrich's style. Voluptuous androgyny indeed... I tend to think most about her suits, although she looked great in those siren gowns as well.
In my experience though, her look in those suits is a very difficult one to copy.

  4. I love her masculine look, it was so different then and I like how daring it was. I also like that she convinced women to wear trousers!!

  7. I love the suits! I am all for women in menswear, though my friends threaten to ostracize me if I show up in similar attire. Which, er, suits me just fine. Sew them up, girl: I support you.

LOVE Marlene.  Found a great book on her in a thrift store.  It was fascinating stuff (looks like you can get it used on Amazon for $.34.  Can't beat that!) http://www.amazon.com/Marlene-Dietrich-Maria-Riva/dp/0345386450/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1332941089&sr=1-1

You would look smashing in any of these outfits!  I love her gowns and her suits - she smolders in both styles.

  11. I am a huge fan of her in Shanghai Express, a look that Ralph Lauren perfectly captured a few seasons back with a wonderfully slinky 1930's look mixing the bias dresses and the fox furs with the exotic Chinese trims and silk/satin combos of the era. Plus the wonderfully frizzed cloud of hair.

  12. When I think of Marlene I always think of the masculine suits.  Not my style at all, but so fabulous on her.  And I love all the different hat styles she wore.  I'm a sucker for all types of hats!
